The entire Liberty Public Schools District, and Liberty in general relies on many vehicles, ranging from buses to tow trucks, to keep it running and it’s citizens happy.

Parents as Teachers or PAT organized a free event for big vehicles to be showcased by their owners. The event took place in Liberty North High School’s parking lot on August 29, a Saturday morning.

“PAT, is a home visiting program for families birth to kindergarten,” Parent Educator Tammy Brizendine said. “We [also] give developmental information and do screening. We do several events like this where we have group connections.”

This community driven event brought an assortment of vehicles, some owned by businesses and some by public services. A school bus, giant tractor, fire truck, police car and even an ATF vehicle were parked for display. Among the vehicles a park ranger allowed everyone to feel animal furs and a zookeeper displayed animal pieces and brought out a live snake.

“I think the event brings all sorts of community members together in one place and it allows kids to get comfortable especially with some of the emergency responding vehicles,” parent Erin Whalley said. “It gives kids one place to go see things they would never ever get to go see,”

Both Students and family members were invited to enter and interact with a vehicle, over 1000 individuals attended. Throughout the whole morning honks and beeps filled the massive parking lot.

Even though the event was entertaining to guests of all ages, the main purpose of the event was to teach everyone who intended just how important vehicles are to Liberty. There are many trucks in Liberty that do many different tasks like digging, towing, farming, and even moving trees.

“[Our] truck is actually a tree transplanter, we can sell trees, move large trees, or move a tree on your property to a different location. A lot of times construction companies will go in and doze trees down when they could have the option to place them in a different area,” Walker Tree Service Owner John Walker said. “It’s really about being able to relocate trees and saving a larger mature tree and saving trees that possibly would be destroyed otherwise.”

There was not a single frown during the entire event, every person involved appeared to have fun. To top it off A Kona Ice Truck sat in the center of the parking lot.

“[My favorite part] is seeing all the happy faces of all the kids when they run up to the bus to get on it,” Bus driver Paula Jurgeson said, “I have done this event several times.”

PAT plans to hold other events for patrons of the Liberty School District during the rest of the school year and for years to come. For more Information of PAR visit https://pat-lps-ca.schoolloop.com/ and for more information of future PAT events visit https://pat-lps-ca.schoolloop.com/events.
