In any situation, whether in the hospital or going through everyday life, spirituality can provide hope and a positive outlook on wellness. Spiritual wellness is the state of someone’s wellbeing and the connection/belief in something bigger than oneself.
“It has helped me believe that things will always get better when they are rough at times,” juniorRylee Joan said.
Spirituality has helped me find connection even in the darkest places. When I was struggling, it was a way to help me heal. It’s not healing a wound or curing an illness; it is more about helping me get into a safe state of mind.
According to the International Consensus Conference on Spiritual Care in Health Care, spirituality is “the way individuals seek ultimate meaning, purpose, connection, value, or transcendence.”
The way people view and practice spiritual wellness varies; I practice it through chakras. Chakras are the seven main energy centers that influence physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Another way is to seek harmony with the universe, express compassion towards others, and practice gratitude and self-reflection. It can help your overall wellbeing mentally.
Some connect spirituality with religion, and while for some people that may be the case, you do not need to have a religion to choose/ have spiritual wellness. Choosing to be spiritually in tune can benefit the mind by staying in tune with emotions and being able to self-reflect. It is not something that has to be practiced every day, but it can be something to keep in mind when going through a tough time.
