What smells good, tastes good, looks good, AND sounds good? The Liberty High School Orchestra Pancake Breakfast!

On Saturday October 3rd from 8:00 am to 11:00 am, your very own Liberty High School orchestra is hosting a pancake breakfast. The most delectable Chris Cakes will be providing all you can eat pancakes, sausage, juice, and coffee.

This fundraiser will benefit the orchestra and hopefully bring in abundant profits. Purchase tickets for $5.50. Purchase tickets at the door, online at Blue Jay Nation, or from an orchestra student.

What makes an orchestra pancake even better? A cakewalk and a silent auction. “We’re going to have a cake walk and maybe a silent auction so students can bid on baskets that orchestra students provide, and that’ll be fun,” orchestra teacher Michelle Davis said.

The baskets will consist of anything from candy, to lottery tickets – don’t miss outt. In case you don’t remember elementary school carnivals, a cakewalk is a game where you walk in a circle with numbered spots with some music playing. When the music stops, you stop on whatever spot you’re on. The director of the game calls out a number, and if you are standing on that number, you win. There will be treats for the winners of this cakewalk.

And what’s a meal without a little bit of entertainment? Members from some of the different orchestras will be playing at the pancake breakfast.“I do want to play at the event, because I think it will bring in more people to have them listen to us and enjoy their time while they’re eating breakfast,” sophomore Hollis Hagenbuch said. Make sure to at least come and see a performance from of one the top high school orchestras in the nation.

The profits from this event will go towards making our already astounding orchestra, even better. “All the donations go towards the orchestra boosters and their students for clinicians and their trips, and whatever they need for orchestra,” Davis said.

“We submitted an application for the parade, so we might have a float with people playing and walking and getting out there in the community. We also have an opportunity to go to Emporia State for a jazz workshop,” she said. “We’re auditioning for All-District and All-State orchestra festivals. We’re doing solo and ensemble festival. And sometimes I’ll get a call from somebody that wants us to play for an event.” Davis said.

The chamber orchestra brought back a lot of pride from ASTA back in March. This event could fund more trips like that. “I go to the pancake breakfast because I love music. I love to hear it, play it, and see it. I want to support the orchestra program at Liberty High School and appreciate how far I’ve come individually as well as some of the other members in my orchestra that are still here,” junior Berit Nuetzmann said.

“Being in chamber is a lot more than just showing up to class on time with viola in hand for me, which is a struggle in and of itself. Being a part of chamber is being a part of a community,” she said. “To be in a community you support it and take steps to further it and ensure its future. The future of our orchestra program at out high school is brought on by the players and the places we play (our reputation in the area, if you will). But in order for chamber to got to cool places like ASTA or MMEA it requires money, like everything else in this world. So the pancake breakfast lets our orchestras be as successful as they are.”

Davis described this event in a nutshell. “Students are performing. It’s our first kick-off event, so our first fundraiser of the year. It gets everybody from the community coming in and talking and having conversations. It’s definitely unique,” she said. She’s right; this event is definitely unique.

“I’m going because I’ve gone every year so far, so I mean no need to break tradition senior year, right?” Senior Barcilio Blake said.
