The Big Blue Bird

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, no it’s… well it is actually a bird, a blue jay to be exact.  The bluejay is an iconic bird for LHS and can be seen all over the school. A tradition for LHS is to have someone dress up and to raise spirit as the bird itself, to the marching band or the football field.

“If we didn’t have a mascot it would hard to give people hype before or during games,” band member Jasmyne Pritchett said. “People wouldn’t care as much and would lack school spirit.”

The mascot does many things to keep LHS active and has a certain charm no matter  what  he is doing. The bird represents our school and looks cool while doing it.

“I like the mascot because it’s important to the school, because we are Blue Jays and it’s important to represent that,” social studies teacher Ron Ludwig said.

The mascot may be important but can still be a nuisance at other school-related events.

“Sometimes (he can be) annoying because if something is not supposed to be happy, he tries to make it happy.” sophomore  Zach Funderburk said. “And sometimes, he just gets in the way.”

“Sometimes he can be annoying, because we could be playing and he is running around us and stuff, but mostly its fine,” Pritchett agreed.

Over all, the mascot is important to LHS and keeps people on the edge of their seats that makes them want to jump for joy. The Blue Jay is and will always be important to our school, no matter what.
