That’s A Rap

An In-depth look on LHS’s Rap Club

At LHS we’re all about activities. Whenever it’s sports, clubs, or performing in a school play, we also are big on the performing arts from Tarzan to marching band we have a very unique club that is all about performing; That’s right, it’s rap club!

Rap club joined LHS this year and is being sponsored by Special Education teacher Derek Franz, who grew up with music and enjoys a little rap music too.

“I grew up with my parents who played in band in high school,” Franz said. “My mom even played the saxaphone in college and music was a part of our lives. I enjoy some rap music [and] I felt like this club was needed and offered to be a sponsor.”

“Rap Club started after a student suggested [the idea] to the counseling office,” Franz said. “They thought LHS should include this club.  The counselor sent an email asking if any faculty members were interested in being a sponsor.”

The club meets every Monday in room 500, Liberty Hour A.

Rap club is an informal group of 2-3 members that has casual meetings.

“We share rap songs and sometimes the students try their own raps to different rhythms and beats.” Franz said.

DeAnthony Saunders is one of the members of the club who helps teach the other rappers how to rhyme and freestyle while writing his own raps.

“My friend DeAnthony got me into [rap].” ereshman Josh Hannsz said. “It’s pretty fun because we just get to hang around and do some rap. It’s pretty fun.”

The group is also planning to perform in the talent show this spring. Rap club members include sophomore DeAnthony Saunders, freshman Josh Hannsz, and junior David Martin.
