Brown Jug Competition

Brown+Jug+Competition

The chill of the water as soon as it touches the water, and he words “Swimmer to your marks” This is what the Liberty swim teams lives for. Great weather, lots of sports and school activities going on. For those involved in fall sports this is an extremely exciting time whether starting their first year in the program or their last. Time honored rivalries and traditions only add to the excitement of the fall and the men’s swim team knows all about such rivalries. A rivalry that has been going on for 40 years.

“This is going to be the 40th annual Brown Jug competition” said head swim coach Chris Murphy, “Last year was our 4th consecutive time winning the Brown Jug meet, so going into this meet our top goal as always is to win”.

What makes this meet so intense is it involves only one other school.

“Raytown high school, that’s who we have been swimming against ever since it started”. Senior and returning state qualifying swimmer Jonah Korondi said. “I personally don’t have any rivals but it has become a big rivalry for our schools in general, so just a big team rivalry really.”

Competitiveness may be the main focus for the participating athletes but its not all about win, win, win.

“It’s usually a fun time, very competitive but I like the atmosphere and being with my team.”

Junior Alex Dowling said “I swim the 100 breast and 200 IM”.

Overall record of these is Raytown high school with twenty-five wins Liberty with thirteen wins and one tie. Although Liberty is behind on overall wins, the Blue Jays have taken victories five out of the last six meetings and we hope all Blue Jay fans can make it out September 24, at Raytown high school to support our swim team.
