Senior Kiran Deol, Reporter

Senior Kiran Deol is coming in hot and ready for her first year being a part of the Newspaper staff. Though according to Deol this is not her first time being interested in joining the Newspaper.

“I would say that I’ve always had the interest to join LHS Newspaper,” says Deol. “I've wanted to join it ever since freshman year, but I didn't have enough room in my schedule which is why I joined it this year. The reason I wanted to join is because I think that being a journalist and learning how to become a journalist can really help you with your writing. You have to learn how to be concise and you have to learn how to take in different perspectives. I just think that overall being a journalist helps you strengthen certain areas that benefit you and other things besides journalism.”

Even though this is her first time in the class, it is not her first time writing outside of your average ELA class, she has also mentioned how she wrote for debate.

Newspaper is not the only way she has been involved in the school, Deol informs us of the other ways she’s gotten involved outside of classes.

“I was a part of STUCO freshman through junior year, then I was a part of National Honors Society last year, and this year I am in speech and debate and of course Newspaper.”

When she is not in school Deol enjoys spending time with her mom, dad and brother. She also enjoys watching her favorite show “Friends.”

Everyone has inspirations that make them reflect and learn, for Deol that inspiration is her father.

“I feel like my biggest inspiration is my dad, and not necessarily because of his writing I think that there have been many moments where I’ve written something and my dad has sort of modified it,” Deol said. “I don’t know if those modifications have inspired me but they have taught me a lot of new things.”

With Deol nearing the end of her time in highschool she’s begun thinking about what she wants to accomplish in her last year.

“I think I would like to get healthy habits out of high school, habits that I can also use in college,” Deol said.
