Senior Emma McDonald, Photographer

Photography can capture some of the most memorable moments in life. For senior Emma McDonald, photography is something she feels strongly passionate about and it’s what she has always been interested in growing up. McDonald has a lot to bring to the table, being her fourth year taking pictures for the school. This year she will be the Photo Jay Editor-in-Chief  for the school’s newspaper The Bell.

“I always thought it was really cool,” McDonald said. “My uncle is a big photographer, he just does it as a hobby. He travels all over the place and I thought I'd take a whack at it.”

Photography is not the only thing McDonald is interested in as she explains what motivates her.

“My biggest inspirations are probably publications like the New York Times or Wall Street Journal,” McDonald said.

Newspaper has always been a class that has captured McDonald’s interests.

“I like newspaper because I liked photography,” McDonald said. “I didn't know what yearbook was, but I knew what a newspaper was, so I chose to do that.”

McDonald does a lot to keep herself busy when she’s not at school or taking pictures.

“I am a lifeguard at the Community Center, I babysit, I swim on the swim team, and I take care of my dog,” McDonald said.

As a photographer, McDonald’s favorite photos to shoot are the football games under the lights every Friday night in the fall.

“I like to shoot football games because of the atmosphere,” McDonald said.

McDonald enjoys music and favorites a certain style as well. When asked what her favorite band is and aesthetic are she answered:

“Greer,” McDonald said. (A popular alternative/indie band from Southern California), “My aesthetic is probably early 90’s vintage or the early 2000’s.”

As McDonald is now a senior, she plans to take her next steps towards college.

“I want to go to the University of Missouri to study linguistics,” McDonald said.

McDonald will strive to be a great leader on The Bell this year as the Photo Editor and Chief. Being a senior, she will also continue to stay busy with her extracurriculars and photography, while hoping to have a great year on staff.
