Senior at LHS, Derek Katzer, has been a part of The Bell since his freshman year. His passion for design and editing has led him to be responsible for multiple positions on the newspaper staff.

“ I am the editor, so this year I'll be editing stories, along with being an online manager,” Katzer said. “With online stories, l edit them, then publish them online. My last job is design manager, so I'll be overseeing the designs of the newspaper and helping some of the newer section editors with their designs and the creative process.”

Originally starting off writing articles as a reporter his freshman year, Derek is the most experienced member on staff with four years of prior experience working for The Bell. Throughout his years, Derek has held positions as Spotlight Editor, The Arts and Entertainment Editor, and Reporter.

After highschool, Katzer plans to attend community college for two years for free through his participation in the A+ Program. While journalism is a potential option in college, Katzer also is interested in possibly studying education.

Outside of school, Katzer plays for the soccer team. Yet even with his extra circulars, he says that his time working in the Newspaper still holds some of his best memories.

“Deadline nights are always very fun, very fun to remember too,” Katzer said. “They're stressful, but it also allows for the Section Editors and the rest of the team to really interact. There's always really fun moments there.”
